‘COME BACK TO CAREER ‘was the clarion call made to all young female job aspirants in Kerala by Prayaana, Kerala’s first Employability, Entrepreneurship and Innovation lab for women.
A function inclusive of aspirants from all over Kerala was held on 24th May 2018 at Kerala Management Association hall,in Panampilly Nagar Kochi. More than a hundred young women with the desire of getting back to career welling up inside them ,thronged the gates of Management House to take part in the full day seminar conducted by Ms. Chandra Vadhana,CEO of ‘Prayaana’ along with Dr.Lalitha Mathew &Ms.Keziah Thomas , the chief mentors& crew of the organization.
Dr.M.Beena IAS,Managing Director , KSIDC, who was to be the chief guest for the day , expressed through a video byte, her inability to attend due to pressing administrative matters& complimented the Prayaana team on the new venture of trying to give job opportunities to qualified women who had had a break in their career due to natural causes .She wished the venture, first of its kind in Kerala ,all success.
Ms.Chandra explained how she & her team planned to raise the quality & employability of the young women who had to quit work due to marriage,childbirth, husbands’ job transfers etc.She said, “Feminism for me is the opportunities that a woman can get to realise her true potential. For some it can be their family's happiness but for others who have other ideas, it should be allowed to be given birth and nurtured.India is ranked 120/133 countries in global gender gap index and we have less than 33%of women in economy. We, being a fast growing nation cannot afford to keep idle half of our population's talent and creativity.”
Prof.(Dr.) Lalitha Mathew,the Chief Mentor, talked to the audience about Work-Life-Integration.Her observations about the present day scenario where the women work force was struggling to fight the elephant in the room & for whom work pressure was transcending to stress & consequent health issues, & how the margin & the cubicle compartmentalisation of work in the office separated from work at home was blurring,were very relevant; she even went on to offer plausible solutions as to how the stress monster could be vanquished once & for all & how the attitude & aptitude of the listeners could decide their altitude in life..
The panel discussion that followed with seven eminent personalities from different walks of life & seven different success stories was ably moderated by Prayaana’s another member of the Chief Mentors, Ms.KeziahThomas.The personal experiences & the struggles they went throughto reach the present successful state of entrepreneurship not only touched but also inspired every heart in the auditorium.Ms. Keziah in her natural humoristic style entertained the audience with her witty narration.
The highlight of the programme was the presence of Mr. Vivek Krishna Govind, President,KMA, who offered a memorable felicitation for the women centred function .He categorically stated that it was high time the job aspiring young ladies came out to join the work force of our country & demonstrate their sizeable role in our overall improvement.He congratulated Ms.ChandraVadhana on her pioneering efforts to guide the young ladies present to come back to career life.
Ms. Fathima,Project Manager ,Prayaana,explained the advantages of becoming a Prayaana fellow & what would be their take away by attending the 30 hour rigorous training in communication as well as domain skills.
Prayaana Ambassador Ms.Vaishnavi Menon, a student from TocH Institute of Science & Technology topped off with a grand finale in her words of thanks.
